About Julie

  • My family comes first. Period.
  • I work in a medical lab, playing with pee. All day long. Bring on the diapers.
  • I like being at the gym; I don’t like actually going to the gym.
  • I don’t like to run, but I’m competitive and love doing races. Especially if there’s a medal involved.
  • I have very few favorites. Things like food, color, and song change with my mood.
  • That being said, my favorite TV show of all time is The West Wing.
  • I went to Germany without my family for a month two summers in a row in high school. I cried the whole plane ride over the first trip.
  • Dance parties get me through the day.
  • I don’t know what I believe about God and the after-life. I do know that I want my children to make their own decisions regarding what they believe, independent of my thoughts.
  • DJ doesn’t like mushrooms, so when we have them in the house, I’ll eat half a carton at one go.
  • I cuss. I’m working on it.
  • I got my nose pierced at the age of 26 – my biggest act of rebellion to date.
  • I broke my arm playing Power Rangers in my bedroom in fourth grade.
  • Photography is my passion. I’ve taken over 7,000 photos in 2013 alone.
  • Growing up, I played the flute and percussion.
  • I was in the marching band all four years in high school. I was a band geek.
  • I worry that DJ will be the fun parent. I’m aiming for the “not lame” parent.
  • One of my college summer jobs was painting fire hydrants. I did that two summers in a row.
  • I got a 1290 on the SATs. DJ got a 1300. I’ve considered taking them again for the extra ten points.
  • I start listening to Christmas music around the middle of October. The rule is I’m not allowed to play it out loud until the day after Thanksgiving. Everyone in the house wakes up to Christmas music that day.
  • I prefer driving stick to automatic.
  • Every year, my family goes to the Antietam Battlefield in Maryland for the Salute to Independence concert and fireworks. It’s one of the traditions I look forward to sharing with my kids the most.
  • If an occasion calls for a costume, I’m more than happy to oblige.
  • DJ says he’s tired of picking up my socks from around this house. The solution? I wear his socks instead.
  • I think voting is one of the most important responsibilities a person has.
  • I collect Harry Potter books in different languages.
  • I don’t like carbonated drinks or caffeine, so I drink water, milk, apple juice, and hot chocolate.
